Annual Mentoring Celebration
Join us each January as we celebrate National Mentoring Month with an inspiring evening honoring some of Central Ohio’s Outstanding Mentors and Mentees.
Mentoring awards are given annually by State Representative and Minority Leader Joyce Beatty—and businesses involved in mentoring are celebrated as part of the Honor Roll of Mentoring. Past celebrity speakers include:
Ohio First Lady Frances Strickland
Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman
Archie Griffin, two-time Heisman trophy winner and OSU Alumni Association President
Thomas W. Dortch, Atlanta businessman and past National Chairman of The 100 Black Men of America
FunDay is a spirited day of sports, games, crafts, cooking, clinics for football, cheerleading and break-dancing, prizes and food, held at Ohio State University’s state-of-the-art recreation center. It is open free to partner agencies, their mentors and mentees.
Ohio State University honor societies, chief among them the Mount Scholars, help organize games and activities such as limbo contests and karaoke as well as serving food, securing prizes and serving as Mentors-for-the-Day for young people on waiting lists.
Each year, about 400 mentors and mentees attend and tell us that they love it!
